Unorthodox Limit Texas Holdem Moves

Once in a while it pays to make surprise moves to confuse the opponent, especially poker sharks, if they're around at the table, and we're a bit like a fish. Here are some unusual limit texas holdem moves to study and consider.

The usual thing to do with a strong hand is to raise. But we can try checking before raising. This may goad a player to bet and then we raise the bet when our next turn comes. Let's say we're in early position holding an Ac and a Js. The flop shows an Ah, a Jd, and a 6c, and then we check with our two pair. Let's say the move encouraged two other players playing middle position to also check. Then someone from late position makes a bet and we raise the it.

Checking by raising is a counter move to render drawing hands too costly to remain in the play or hand. If we're an early player it also gives us some control of the play. Now, if other players choose to call, at least we have all the info we need on their hands.

Semi-bluffs are also worth trying as a wining tactic. We make a raise or bet using our drawing hand. In some cases this tactic immediately wins the game. If not, the hope is to chance upon hitting our draw and getting the pot. How would this work? Let's say we're playing in a late position and we have a suited Q and J. The flop reveals a Qc, a 7s, and a 3s. With 9 outs there's a flush draw there.

But 4 players in the hand checked. We do a little bluff and bet, though our hand is not really that conducive for a bet. We may bluff those with low pairs into folding, though somebody is likely to call us. Yet, we have some 9 outs to a flush with a possibility to win with some 6 outs more, hitting a J or a Q.

Try raising on the flop using a drawing hand when we're in the late position. Some might check us on the turn and then we bet or check, depending on whether we hit a draw or hand. In case nothing comes out of our hand, then we save some from our bankroll. But what if we do hit our draw?

Trying some surprise moves once in a while is a good limit Texas Holdem tactic.
