Pros and Cons in Limit Texas Holdem

Here are some pros and cons that will help us know the strengths and weaknesses of some limit texas holdem strategies.

To play limit poker safely it is good to keep a good kicker handy whenever possible. A kicker is a helpful side card that partners with our highest card, more so when there is one that seems to make it as a winning highest card. But poor kickers can only help us with hands that are second to the highest, which eventually, may even prove costly for us.

We should have a sharp eye for careless players who are on their way into the pot but are susceptible to being stolen from. Being a player in the late position will enable us to judge better than the others and steal the pot quickly and aggressively. This is easier to do when few players are in the pot and the pot has been checked by others prior to our turn to act. This makes stealing a better option. But we must not forget the players still in the pot—make sure they're not sharks—and we have to watch how the community cards affected them.

The common mistakes of players in limit Texas Holdem is to establish a play pattern unconsciously. Players often have typed plays in calling, raising, and re-raising, especially with a hand they hold. Once the pattern is repeated several times, skilled players will easily notice and remember. Hence, the next time such players raise or call, sharp players readily know what hands those players have.

Thus, the remedy here is to never stick to a particular pattern or style of playing. We have to be aware of how we play our hand at the same time that we closely watch how other players play theirs. We have to watch any pattern emerging from our play. Though playing tight and aggressive, it's not necessary that we appear thus. We may feign at times.

But patterns are reliable allies sometimes. They simplify our play so that we pay less attention to how effective our play is and give more time to how other players play. Patterns automatically bring in a specific strategy for a specific situation. Most players remedy this by relying on positional play pre-flop rather than hand play. With rotation turns, positions vary each game, and so does our strategy—eliminating patterns in the process.

Limit Texas Holdem strategies may be weighed in various ways, depending on our play situation.
