Hits of top pairs should be exploited to the maximum during a flop play. The more we have them the more we play tightly and aggressively.
Often bet and raise when we hit a high pair when the pot is yet unraised in limit texas holdem. Professionals counsel on this. It is good opportunity that should not be missed. Hitting a top pair is a strong poker condition in flop plays even if someone else happens to also hold a top pair. And we must teach players who dare remain in the pot some hard lessons, bluffing us with a poor kicker, or even those with bottom or middle pairs or even high pairs—raise on them real hard.
Raising on these players to teach them a lesson tells them that next time, if they have no strong hand to play against us, they better fold—because we mean business. If we don't assume this meanness pre-flop and on the flop, we suffer beats because of the opportunity we give other players. If we are going to be a poker shark in limit Texas Holdem, we should not let any fish hang around too long and later may even spoil our play by being too lucky for us.
When the pot is raised, we must even play carefully. A hit high pair by us should be played relative to the type of player who raised the pot. Remember that often raises are made with high-pair hands or an ace-king, especially at levels that are quite low. In this case, we go conservative on our raise. But with plays at levels much higher, raisers are often very aggressive even if they have nothing, and this is the time we must be teaching them lessons—if we hit the flop. A check-raise when we hit the flop with a top pair is essential.
Sometimes a tougher pocket pair does emerge but it is likely that we'll be punishing this player or make this player lay his hand down for making a draw to the over-cards the player has. Again, with high pairs or over-pairs we play outright if we raised pre-flop. Keep aggressively at it till some players react obviously. Say, we raised using two high cards like an AK and nothing happens, we should review the number of players plus the content of the board.
Limit Texas Holdem on the flop play should often be aggressive with a top pair hit. This checks bluffers and scares them off.
